Are you wanting to do a winter getaway but not sure what to do? No worries, we have got you covered. This article will outline how to have a fun weekend around the Breckenridge area.
One of my close friends decided to do a winter getaway for her birthday. After much deliberation we decided to go with Breckenridge because the location had a lot to offer. We stayed for about four days, which was just enough time to enjoy the
Where to Stay:
I will be honest I did not stay in Breckenridge because the group I was with fell in love with this amazing cabin located about two hours away in Colorado Springs. We found the cabin on Vrbo , we fell in love with its size and amenities. The house had ample space and had a fire pit as well as a hot tub. The house was fully stocked with supplies so we did not end up having to buy too much. The house had an amazing view which explained why the drive up the mountain was so rigorous. You know what they say, no pain, no gain! I would definitely recommend staying at this lovely cabin. But, If you are looking to stay closer to snow attractions I would recommend staying within the Breckenridge area. They offer hotels and cabins as well.
What to Wear
Epic Activities:
When going to any snowy destination the first activities that come to mind are going skiing, snowboarding, or even catching an amazing view from a ski lift. There are so many editorials about the wonders of those activities, I wanted to focus on some not so traditional activities to do during your winter getaway.
Pro-tip: Tours fill fast! Book tours well in advance to ensure availability for your preferred tour time.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy some epic snow adventure while enjoying a beautiful view I suggest Good Times Adventures Tour Dog. Our group absolutely loved this place! We decided to go dog sledding and had a blast. First, we entered the location about 30 mins ahead of our reservation time, it is required by the company. When you are traveling to the location first screenshot the directions as GPS services normally suspend due to no network coverage. While on the trip I had absolutely no cell service so be prepared. The facility offers snowsuits and snow boots if you do not come prepared. Before starting the sledding experience we got to pet the beautiful dogs and play with them. I am not a dog person but I definitely enjoyed bonding with the Huskies. The overall experience was amazing and our tour guide was so hospitable. Our tour guide Alex was very informative and took so many pictures and videos of us. The company went above and beyond when enforcing COVID-19 precautions. This is a must do when visiting Breckenridge!
Good Times Adventures Tours also offers snowmobiling as well. Although we did not partake, we sure did enjoy watching the riders zoom past us. This is definitely on my to do list when I return.
After dog sledding we enjoyed snow tubing at Frisco Adventure Park. We decided to get the hour long tickets and that was enough time for us to slide down a few times. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. I suggest taking some pictures before preparing to slide down. You can choose the speed and rigor of your ride. The slope attendants were so nice and hospitable. The company adhered to all CDC outlined COVID-19 guidelines. If you are looking for something fun and easy to do look no further this experience is for you!
When winding down from a long weekend of activities I suggest visiting a spa to unwind. Sunwater Spa was the perfect place to unwind while we soaked in their warm mineral water tubs. The spa facilities were spotless and offered a wide array of amenities. All tubs were socially distant and offered a beautiful view of the city. Whether you decide to go day or night, this place is the perfect place to get some much needed relaxation.
Pro-tip: I suggest getting some sheet masks to put on while you are soaking. I have linked the sheet masks that we used during our trip below.
Where to Eat:
The Melting Pot
We decided to do most of our cooking in the cabin but we did decide to check out the melting pot in Colorado Springs. The melting pot was so delicious and was an activity in itself. The spreads were large and the deserts were decidatant. We tried a lot of new foods and left feeling very stuffed. The Melting Pot was perfect for our large group as well.
